FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Baltimore, MD — The Foundation for Special Surgery (FSS) will host its annual Sankofa Gala on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Martin’s West in Baltimore, Maryland, bringing together supporters, partners, and global health advocates for an inspiring evening dedicated to advancing life-saving surgical care.
The Sankofa Gala is FSS’s signature fundraising event, supporting its mission to deliver highly complex surgical care, train local providers, and build sustainable healthcare systems in underserved communities worldwide.
“The Sankofa Gala represents the heart of our mission—bringing people together to ensure that access to life-saving surgical care is not a privilege, but a possibility,” said Pamela Sofola, Director of Development of the Foundation for Special Surgery. “Every ticket and donation helps save lives and restore futures.”
FSS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit humanitarian organization addressing the global surgical care gap in regions where specialized expertise is limited. The Foundation has delivered care and training in Peru, Mexico, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Liberia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, and Cameroon.
A major milestone in FSS’s work was achieved in 2024 with the inauguration of the West Africa Institute for Special Surgery (WAISS) in Accra, Ghana, established as a regional center of excellence for complex surgical care and professional training.
Guests attending the Sankofa Gala will enjoy an elegant evening of fine dining, inspiring stories of lives saved and changed, and opportunities to support this mission through ticket purchases, table sponsorships, and donations.
“This evening is about turning compassion into action,” added Sofola. “The impact extends far beyond one night; it strengthens healthcare systems and saves lives.”
Reserve your seat, sponsor a table, or make a donation today and be part of an evening that transforms lives.
